The site is located in Taishan District, where sediments amassed and came to form the Linkou layer and the Xinzhuang layer of New Taipei’s geology. The soil structure there is relatively soft and loose and is classified as Taipei Zone 1 of the Taipei Basin (where the greatest seismic force would be felt). Therefore, in consideration of the seismic site effects caused by earthquakes, the structure of the building was designed to be lightweight, avoiding long and narrow forms, to reduce the load on the bottom floor of the building, hence eliminating potential damage from an earthquake, and the degree of oscillation in the upper floors, lessening the wind force.
An application was filed for the hospital to be evaluated by eight indicators of Taiwan’s EEWH green building certification system (foliage, water soil content, water conservation, energy savings, CO2 emissions reduction, construction waste reduction, garbage and sewage improvements, and indoor environmental quality), and the hospital became one of the few green-architecture hospitals in Taiwan to be awarded the Gold level certification.
