To cope with the Formosa Fun Coast Explosion Event, the central and regional government collaborated to establish the “627 Burn Case Management Center”, which began to operate on July 14. In the manner “one person per case,” each follow-up medical healthcare scheme will be projected integrating various resources after emergency medical care, including rebuilding, rehabilitation, home care, schooling, employment, and other demands. Accompanying patients and their families, it aims to follow-up their mental healthcare and rebuild their everyday life.

Mayor Eric Chu Li-luan of New Taipei City expressed that after the accident only a few patients with minor burnt left the hospitals, most of the victims are still in critical conditions. The Ministry of Health and Welfare is going to coordinate and integrate resources to provide medical care to patients in different courses of treatment until their conditions become stable. Then, they will be moved to 627 Burn Center Case Management Center seamlessly for mid-term and long-term care provided by its medical teams. The project management center will provide integrated consultation services and concern to the patients, their families, and people participated in the rescue by phone, helping them to overcome the ordeal. Director Lin Mei-Na of the center expressed, the center will endeavor to help all the 500 patients and their families with care and concern, regardless of their residence or household location.

The 627 Burn Case Management Center is consisted of consultation rooms, group therapy rooms, and occupational rehabilitation rooms. The full-time professionals there will provide all sorts of help and services to the patients and their families. If they have any doubts and needs, they can call the service hotline (02)2257-0627 on weekdays during the office hours from 8:00am to 8:00pm. Special personnel will provide all sorts of services through a single window. In this accident, there are about 200 victims living in the Greater Taipei area. To provide follow-up medical care and help to them, a special Burn Ward was established in Banqiao Hospital, which joined the burn medical care system in the Greater Taipei area, hoping to provide burnt patients to obtain medical care in a hospital nearby.

Zhu Li-lun expressed further that this unprecedented burn accident in Taiwan exposed the weakness of the sponsor in neglecting the process and details of the activity. It is hoped that with the lesson we learned from this accident, alerting people concern. We should seriously review the accident and make remedy, hoping similar accident will not happen again. Worthy of mentioning, Mr. Su, whose child was a student died in the accident and donated her organs after death, also attended the opening ceremony on the 14th. Su was originally a student major in dentistry in Taipei Medical University, unfortunately died in this accident. Mr. Su also advocated the government should give them full backup and continue taking care of other victims without giving them up. The 627 Burn Case Management Center is located on 6F, Banqiao Branch, New Taipei Hospital. It is grateful that Yue Long donated NT$ 16 million worth of equipment and professional medica apparatus to the “The 627 Burn Case Management Center.” At the same time, illustrators were invited to paint pictures in this space to comfort and cure the patients, their families, medical personnel, and people mentally by providing them with mental support. In addition, the New Taipei City Medical Association also donated NT$ 1 million; Acer, NT$ 250 thousand; and Sansin, NT$ 1 million. In addition to the donation, Sansin’s construction team also endeavored to help building the center. On July 14, the official opening ceremony, President Mao Chi-kuo of the Executive Yuan and Mayor Zhu Li-lun also attended the ceremony and visited the center.

For the burn patients, the emergency medical care provided to them is only the beginning. In the future, there will be a long way to go in the rehabilitation process.
